The PEC Gold Shovel Module is an eLearning course that brings students through the Gold Shovel Standard Program. The PEC Gold Shovel Module provides awareness-level safety information on excavations to reinforce worker awareness of hazards they may encounter in their workplace and strengthens student knowledge of various practices to mitigate those hazards. Students will be shown how to find and apply necessary legal documentation for excavations and state-specific legislation regarding hand-digging and tolerance zones around underground utilities.

  • 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P (Especially 1926.651)
  • State 811 / Common Ground Alliance Websites
  • 811 Excavation Safety Guide - The Tolerance Zone
  • Excavation Legislation from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, specifically on hand-digging and tolerance zone
